One of my earliest childhood memories is the distinct smell of sawdust and leather in my Father's workshop. It is the familiar aroma of my origins, the essence of the Fleming & Howland family.
Since 1780, the skills and techniques required to make an authentic British Chesterfield have been passed down through generations of traditional chair makers. This is the legacy I have inherited; responsibility to continue the pride and passion of my ancestry.
Our work begins with the selection of the most exquisite woods and high grade skins. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted using a process that takes weeks; framed, upholstered and hand finished, preserving historic methods and designs. It is these techniques, nowadays practically extinguished, which make our furniture so unique.
We have created two ranges of Chesterfield furniture, each represented by differing methods of antiquing leather: the Classic range in Antiqued leather and the Heirloom range in Hand-Coloured leather. The Tailored Service section of the website demonstrates our ability to custom-make furniture to any design, using any material of choice.

Antiqued Leather
The attraction of a Classic design is its historic charm and noble elegance. Our range of upholstery in Antiqued leather is no exception.
The hide is pre-dyed before arriving at the workshop and subsequently antiqued by gently rubbing away the top coat. A final sealant is then applied to ensure protection, also providing a mellow luster finish.
It is for this reason that a Classic Chesterfield transmits such character and warmth, easily welcomed into any home.
